Body Trust® Therapist

What’s a Certified Body Trust Provider?

I completed a 1+ year training with the Center for Body Trust on providing weight-inclusive care covering topics like Body Sovereignty, Healthy Equity & Disability Justice, Counteracting the Dominant Weight Paradigm, Body Trust & Trans Experience, Applying a Social Justice Lens for Eating Disorder Treatment, and Reclaiming Movement.

In the process of completing the certification,

  • I got to meet and collaborate with an amazing community of other multidisciplinary professionals committed to providing weight-inclusive care

  • I engaged in a parallel process of doing my own reckoning and reclamation work of Body Trust

  • I’ve integrated Body Trust in how I think about fat liberation parenting: supporting kids in maintaining or reclaiming body trust and truly seeing and trusting young people’s autonomy

  • I got the opportunity to practice doing C-level work, because perfectionism is a tool of white supremacy

  • Thankfully, I shored up my resources to support myself, clients, and other therapists in this age of GLP1s

  • I learned from amazing guest speakers including Sand Chang, PhD, Imani Barbarin, and Shilo George, MS

The last step to becoming certified is to write a letter about why you feel ready to be certified. Here’s an excerpt from mine:

I continue to be committed to unlearning. I think about certification not as an attainment or accomplishment, but more of a commitment to the ongoing practice of Body Trust and to expanding the ways Body Trust shows up in my work: reaching more fat parents; more parents and caregivers of fat kids; and supporting fat therapists while integrating Body Trust into my supervision offerings.

As a Certified Body Trust® Provider, I might be a good fit for you if you’re looking for a body positive or fat positive therapist in Seattle or Washington state. If you’re feeling ambivalent about your weight; struggling with your body image; or adjusting to or processing a new illness or disability, I can provide a steady container to examine the impact of anti-fat bias, process and heal trauma, and support you in living in alignment with your values.

If you’re a student, new therapist, or experienced clinician, I can also provide supervision and consultation grounded in Body Trust frameworks.I bring 20 years’ experience as a clinical social worker in many settings along with a strong critique of and willingness to question the systems in which we practice.
